I've made a decision
It's been a few days since I've posted anything. I don't want to mislead you though into thinking that I haven't been thinking about my blog. In fact, it's been consuming most of my thoughts lately. I have wanted to create and maintain a blog for a long time now. As I mentioned in my introductory blog post, I've just never been able to think of a topic that I consider worthy of starting a blog for. I've gone round and round trying to come up with something that I know enough about to maintain a blog but not something that's already been done over and over. Food was my first idea because I really do love it but there are so, so, so many food blogs of all types. After thinking long and hard I think I have finally decided on a topic. I'm a licensed teacher but as I don't currently have a teaching job I do quite a bit of substitute teaching as does my husband. "Subbing" as it's called can be brutal at times and it's a field that I don't hear many people talk about. There are a LOT of us out there but no one talks about how difficult it can be. This is exactly what I intend to blog about so stay tuned! I will be changing the title of my blog in the next few days if that's possible and if not, I'll be setting up a new blog.

"Subbing" is a pair of shoes that I have never worn, but I have dear friends whose primary income was subbing in the '80's. Their story is a bit unique. It takes place in Alaska a couple hours north of Anchorage. Their "homestead" was a half hour walk from the highway with an awesome view of Denali. Realizing that getting the message to sub at 6:00 in the morning, via CB, and trying to get to the school on time was near impossible, they bought some land on the road system, closer to the school and within the service area of the telephone utility. The first winter they lived in half of an old army tent and requested a phone connection. The utility was amazed and we all were very amused to know people living in a tent with phone service. But it worked. Remember as you visualize this picture, this is Alaska in the winter in a tent.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like to add this "subbing" story to your repertoire.
Your journey through this class and your final decision are a model for this class. As always I have learned a great deal from your adventure. Thank-you and good luck with both the blog and the "subbing."
